PRODUCT ANNOUNCEMENT

The second generation of the Application Performance Portal - which was already rich in functionality - is being updated with even more!

A.P.P. is at the leading edge of the new generation of application focused performance solutions that address the challenges provided by cross-platform Java applications. Compared to other vendors, Macro 4 has taken a markedly different approach in designing the A.P.P. solution and we are seeing this making a real difference in how the solution is being perceived. We emphasize:

  • Focusing on the application, not just the supporting infrastructure
  • Designing for Production not just Development or Test
  • Putting a much greater emphasis on the strength of the User Interface
  • Building user collaboration tools into the heart of the solution
  • Supporting a wide range of Java environments

Key Functions
This update to A.P.P. 2.0 adds four main new features to the solution. If you have Java and Oracle in your organization, then you really should take a good look at this updated release.

A short summary of the main new features is given below.

Oracle Data Correlation
In release 2.0, A.P.P. introduced a powerful facility that correlated between z/OS DB2 databases and the Java code that was accessing them. With update D, this facility is extended to include support for Oracle databases, running on any of the A.P.P. supported platforms. Now you can finally connect together the database performance with the Java code that is affecting it - regardless of which platform they are running on.

Standalone JVM support
Many users do not make use of Application Servers (such as WebLogic or WebSphere) as part of their business solutions and instead run their code via the standard Java Runtime Environment (JRE). Update D introduces support for this model of Java operation and includes support for arbitrary class/method instrumentation and JDBC SQL capture. The versions that are supported in this mode in this update are Java 1.4 and 1.5 from IBM, SUN and JRockit.

WebLogic Environments
With update D we continue to increase the level of support for the WebLogic infrastructure. Support for additional data measures for Transaction Counts and HTTP Counts has been added.

Automatic Data Management
In this update we have added a new set of functionality that allows users to significantly improve the management of the performance data that A.P.P. collects. Update D allows for the scheduling of pre-defined data management tasks to be originated by an external job.
