6. Hints and Tips
Contributed by Simon Hutchings (Nationwide):
- On CA-VTAPE R11.5 SP3. We've been running fine for a while and then got abends with a Title of SVTSIRB04E which was an 0C4 in SVTSSRV. No other messages. It stooped VTAPE dead. We needed a R12 compatibility fix of QO90444 to resolve the problem.
- On z/OS 1.9, going from 1.7, we were unloading our SystemPac and ipling on our test system in a hurry and got a repeating abend for a new STC, CEA – (Common Event Adapter) - when we first IPL'ed which prevented the IPL from going any further. We had to re-ipl off 1.7, add CEA to RACF and then IPL off 1.9 again. This requirement was not in the SystemPac manuals/process. It was in the 1.9 Migration guide but in our hurry we missed it. For Full Function this new STC requires a UID of 0 and SPECIAL! However minimum mode which is ‘no Special’ or OMVS worked fine for us.
Contributed by Paul Arnerich (TSD)
- Raised concern over IBM product documentation, it appears that the trend in IBM is to cease distribution of manuals, but there does not seem to be a consistent approach with some manuals being provided in INFOCENTER only e.g. SMP/E manuals. IBM GSE Rep to follow up
